Stage Buzz: Pitchfork Music Festival Chicago 2017 at Union Park

| July 10, 2017

Now entering its second decade of existence, the 2017 Pitchfork Music Festival has assembled what is arguably one of their finest line-ups yet. The curation has always made an effort to be eclectic, and this year is certainly no exception.

PJ Harvey

This year’s headliners include a newly activated LCD Soundsystem on Friday (July 14), old-school rappers A Tribe Called Quest on Saturday (July 15) and Solange closes things out on Sunday night, July 16th. But it’s the undercard, as well as could-also-be-headliners, that makes this year so intriguing.

Like Solange, Angel Olsen and Mitski both landed on countless year-end Top Ten lists back in 2016. Aging hipsters get their turn with shoegazers Ride, former Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore, funk heroes George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic and ’90s indie darlings The Feelies. But perhaps the biggest coup here is PJ Harvey. The mysterious chanteuse seems to become more road-phobic with each subsequent release. She played only a handful of live dates this year and Pitchfork managed to make her first Chicago appearance since 2009. And although she doesn’t have a headlining slot on Saturday’s bill, expect her performance to be the one everyone will be talking about come Sunday night.

As of press time, limited single day tickets remain for all three days. Three day passes are sold-out. Union Park, Chicago, IL.
