The 2015 Chicago version of Riot Fest made its debut in Chicago’s Douglas Park – after being asked to not return to Humboldt Park over a dispute with the local alderman over turf repairs (wars?) in 2014. In the fest’s defense, torrential downpours that preceded last year’s opening day turned the park into a sloppy mess. Douglas Park also endured some muddied turf on Day One of the 2015 Fest. What is not open to debate is that the festival is much improved after the move to Ogden and Albany.

Riot Fest’s Douglas park layout was far more navigable than in years past (although the occasional gratuitous sound bleed between stages will need to be addressed). And it sure seemed as if most of the performers brought their A-Game with them, resulting in a great, albeit, sometimes sloppy weekend of music that seemed to have a genre for almost everyone.

IE’s Curt Baran out into the fray to capture Day One performances from Into It. Over It., Death, Fishbone, Mariachi El Bronx, Living Colour, Barb Wire Dolls, 88 Fingers Louie, The Expendables, Every Time I Die, Eagles of Death Metal, Against Me!, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Coheed and Cambria, Anthrax, Faith No More, Mest and No Doubt. Check out his photos before you go shoe shopping, because if your Chuck Taylor’s look like ours, we know your gonna need a some new kicks. And it was worth every penny.
