The Morning After Girls CD review

| December 7, 2005

The Morning After Girls
Prelude: EP’s 1 & 2
(Rainbow Quartz)

Nirvana had a dreadful, dreadful effect on music.

You can forgive the rabble of the first decade, where talentless kids were understandably hitching their wagons to a hitmaking machine. But not until The Vines did anyone so blatantly grab at the chalis, and even The Morning After Girls take cover after “Run For Our Lives” and “Hi-Skies.” Having had their fun, they turn to induct Byrdsian harmonies over slow melodies of Ride or Suede before reverting back. Throw in a little Lush on “Always Mine” or Jesus & Mary Chain and we should be in the clear, right? Well, MAG copy so many bands it’s hard to lend any tips. But understanding grunge should be left to die would be a start.
