Q&A with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump
IE: We last talked to you guys before From Under The Cork Tree came out, and we heard Fall Out Boy have done pretty well. When do the solo albums come out?
Patrick Stump: I know you’re joking, but I’ve gotten that question seriously before, or they’ll ask us who we want to collaborate with, and it’s like, ‘I don’t know. There’s four of us . . . I kind of like playing with these dudes.’ There’s Juelz Santana, Ne-Yo. He’s writing some stuff right now. We could all get together and have a pow-wow.
IE: Are there ways you’ve recognized you can use your power for good?
PS: Now we’re in arenas and girls assume it’s the right time and place to show their breasts. That’s not what we’re into. I mean, we’re into breasts, they’re great and all, but it’s one of those things where we have enough respect for our audience and ourselves not to be interested in people being naked or stupid at our shows.
IE: Well, you have experience coming from hardcore shows where there’s that one guy who’s not into the music and just wants to kick some ass.
PS: Right. That guy comes to Fall Out Boy shows still and we have just as much sympathy for him now as we did then.
IE: If you could take someone else’s role in the band, whose would it be?
PS: I like singing a lot, but I don’t like being out front. I just like the physical act of singing. So, for that respect I’d kind of like to be a drummer again — that’s what I started out doing. So maybe I’d trade with Andy [Hurley]. Andy’s got a nice little voice.
IE: Are you still just a boy from the North Shore with a dream?
PS: Totally. I live in Glenview still and it’s the same old story altogether. It’s funny we’re doing this, because I always pick up IE whenever I’m at Guitar Center.
IE: Oh, um, now that we know that, we’ll try not to make fun of you guys as much.
PS: Please. I will end up reading it.

Hey. Patrick, I love you! I was at your May 4th concert at Mariweather post pavilion! The concert was awesome!!! I listen to FOB every day of my life…not like I’m upsessed. lol. Just wanted to say that I love Patrick, Pete, Andy and Joe. Mostly Patrick.

i saw u guys twice and it was great both times!!!! i was in the pit which made it a million times better because i was really close and i dont think i could ever be in a seat at any concert again cuz the pit it GREAT. FOB is an amazing band. I’ve been listening to you guys not as long as some fans, but a pretty long time and I’m surprised that I’m not sick of your music yet. Your music has definitely gotten me through some things and Patrick has the greatest voice of all time. That’s all I can really think to type right now. Sorry if I sounded totally out of it.

i just want you to know that fall out boy has ruined my life. now, i can’t even listen to any other music, because it’s not fall out boy. the singer’s voice is crap in comparison to patrick’s, the lyrics are trite and shallow compared to petes… the music doesn’t have that special spark, or life that fall out boy’s has. so they’ve ruined my life, and i’m addicted/obsessed, but you know what? i wouldn’t have it any other way. thank you soooooo much and i love you guys to death!!!
((especially andy and joe, they’re awesome guys and they don’t get the credit they deserve, although i do love patrick and peter too =]))

Hi. Just wanted to say ever since i’ve been listening to fall out boy -i’ve really wanted to meet patrick - he is so cool, lucky and hot - and pete is also - he is funny in many ways. Joseph is way too hyper and eh!! Andrew is awsome, and lucky he gets to play the drums.

i actually just started being a fan. When i first heard ‘Sugar We’re going Down’ i swear i heard angels! i know that sounds a little obsessive but its true. You guys have saved me and a number of others from going over to the dark side if you catch my drift *wink wink* um..thats it…oh and patrick! I LOVE YOU! haha but i do love all of you guys equally. One of the biggest FOB fans ever here. I know just about everything about fall out boy and patrick. the: (That’s not what we’re into. I mean, we’re into breasts, they’re great and all) part made me laugh. I totally respect the fact that they can look over those stupid girls at shows and pay attention to the real fans. And oh, im still dying to see Patrick beat it up on the drums. It’s one of the many FOB things i have yet to see. Please show soon!

OMG! I am not ashamed to admit that I am an obsessed and broke Fall Out Boy fan! I am missing two CDs (evening out w/ your gf and my heart will always be the B-side to my tounge) because my stupid music store moved it and I didn’t know, the only other things I’m missing would be off of the Director’s Cut of take this to your grave (I only have the normal one) and the kariokee. But needless to say, I have been spending all of my money on your CDs. In fact, yesterday I ditched school to go get Infinity on High, the special version. Okay, we had a snow day, but I had my mom drive me over fifteen miles just to get a poster free with it and I blew my allowance for next week. I just can’t figure out wat the cards are for. Can someone help me with that? I just want to thank you guys for everything because you are my idols and I have suceeded in changing my 11 year old brother into a Pete fan (Sorry Patrick, Andy, Joe… He’s 11, wat do you expect?) I’m ranting again, aren’t I? Well sorry, I just had an off day. It got better when I listened to Hum Hallelujah and Bang the Doldrums. I love you all and I think of you everyday!

Wow patrick is so amazing, i went to see them live a while ago. Like March 16, 2005. i want to go to another fall out boy show so bad. It was so kick ass. I definetly want to see them promote there new album “infinity on high” on the honda civic tour, but the closest it gets is manchester, MA. So I will either get my mom to drive me, or I can’t go. I would walk, but i’d probably die before I got there. Maine to Mass. yeah, fun trip. I’m all set with that……..

Wow! Fall Out Boy Rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have to say Patrick is my personal Favourite though! I saw them play live at Reading last year and I’m going to see them again this year! I love everything he said in the interview and he is an amazing man! I’d love to see him on drums but I never want him to stop singing because his voice makes Fall Out Boy what they are! I hope they keep going for a very long time! Their music deserves a perminent recognition in history and will always live on in the fans!

Fall Out Boy is just the coolest band to ever exist! Not only is their music great, but their personalities as well. Oh my gosh I just love them (not in a upsessed way though). I like Patrick the best though because of 1. He has a freakin sweet voice 2. He is probably the nicest guy out their and 3. He is so hilarious. I’m not a stalker or anything like other fans, so no need to worry. lol Well, anyways, after hearing your latest album, I believe you guys have what it takes to be the all time best to not just me (you already are) but to everyone. If you guys (fall out boy) r reading this, just know I ABSOLUTELY LUVVV your songs! My favorite songs are 7 minutes in heaven (ataven halen), Bang the Doldrums, and XO. (I listened to bang the doldrums 52 times, according 2 my ipod) I think I memorized all the words to your songs (i think) My favorite video of urs is the Dance Dance video…
