Since their inception in 1995, Godsmack has arguably better navigated the blurred lines between hard rock and what would come to be known as the Grunge movement.
With a collection of Grammy nominations and chart success, which included multiple #1 debuts, the Lawrence, Massachusetts band established itself as heavy enough for Metal fans, but also managed to avoid the Scarlet H that sank countless late ‘80s hair bands.
After cycling through a revolving door of members, lead singer and chief songwriter Sully Erna now remains the quartet’s only original member. Although having not released any new material since 2023’s Lighting Up The Sky (a live album was released in May of this year, but contained no new material), Erna has hit the road for what he’s dubbed “The Rise of Rock” tour.
From the first notes of “When Legends Rise” until the final blast of “I Stand Alone,” the band’s right foot never left the accelerator for the entirety of their performance in Tinley Park, taking fans on a career-spanning joy ride through their three-decade-plus catalog of Modern Rock unit shifters. Hell, they even made leather pants seem stylish again.
