Stage Buzz: Digable Planets, Mike D., Castle Rat, Smashing Pumpkins
It’s been 30 years since Smashing Pumpkins released their seminal album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. They’re celebrating the milestone with a new tour that features a full set dedicated to songs from the record. The second set will span across their catalog and include cuts from early releases to their new stuff. The band have been conquering the metal masses with their music that blends heavy and stoner metal with medieval fantasy themes. Now, the band aims to take over Chicago with their “Summon the Beasts Tour” with special guests Unto Others. It all goes down at Concord Music Hall this Thursday, October 15. Tickets available here.
After nearly four decades of spitting rhymes with the Beastie Boys, Mike D is finally breaking out on his own. The rapper recently released his debut solo album, Thank You, under the name Mike D 5D. Another iconic album turns 30 this year, Digable Planets’ 1994 cult classic, Blowout Comb. Though the album didn’t reach the same commercial success as 1993’s Reachin’, it has since received the recognition it deserves.
