Sombr’s trajectory has been meteoric. Born Shane Michael Boose, the New York native started self-releasing music in 2021. Signing with Warner Records in 2023, combined with the elastic stretch that is TikTok, suddenly expanded his reach, and he seemed ubiquitous. By the time his debut, I Barely Know Her, hit in 2025, he was orbiting the commercial music stratosphere.
Festival appearances, Grammy nominations, Met Gala invites, and radio saturation followed in quick succession. His first major headlining tour has now hit the road and landed at Chicago’s United Center on Wednesday. Emerging from a stage set with serious Lower East Side vibes, it became immediately clear that Sombr has quickly and effortlessly established himself as an arena act. He struck all the requisite rock star poses, was enveloped by a hip-looking, hard-hitting band, and worked the lathered crowd like an absolute lifer. 17 songs later, it was over as if it were a fever dream.
Sweat had been spilled, tears had been shed, and voices screamed themselves hoarse. All that was left was to wait patiently to see what happens next.
