Ah, the perils of an outdoor concert during a Chicago summer. For those assembled to see Mumford & Sons at Chicago’s Wrigley Field on Thursday night, well, Ma Nature threw ‘em a curveball.
Freakishly weird weather blew through the North Side’s famed ballpark, resulting in the opening bands being axed for the evening and the headliner’s start time pushed back to 10pm.
When the band finally played the first notes of the night, the center field clock on the historic scoreboard was rapidly encroaching on 11 pm.
Perhaps it was the tension release, or the extra time inhabiting the drinking dens up and down Clark Street, but when the band hit the stage, the Friendly Confines exploded into song.
Ultimately, the evening would wind through twenty four songs and what certainly must have been a broken curfew. But once the skies parted, it felt like summer had finally arrived.
