The outdoor concert season got off to a rousing start in the southern suburbs on Saturday night. Pierce The Veil, the San Diego-based Emo rockers, took the stage and were greeted to a sold out roar of approval from some 26,000 in attendance. The quartet have been riding an increasingly sizable wave of popularity since releasing their 2023 album The Jaws Of Life, which included another huge turnout at last summer’s Lollapalooza in Chicago’s Grant Park.

Underneath a phalanx of strobe lights and big time production, the band absolutely met their moment by delivering on the declaration from fans that they are currently one of the best live bands out there getting it done. Throughout the course of an 18-song set, they played it like rock & roll lifers, plowing down faves like the cheekily titled “I’m Low On Gas And You Need A Jacket,” “I’d Rather Die Than Be Famous” and the show opening “Death Of An Executioner.” Their energy from the first note was buried in the red and never once subsequently ebbed.

Openers Sleeping With Sirens could be seeing their star rise as well. Many arrived early to catch a set that, by all indications, could see them grabbing a mantle as massive headliners in the near future.
