Stage Buzz: Royal Blood, Dethklok, Ben Gibbard

| September 19, 2023

Royal Blood appears on September 23 at the Riviera Theatre.

The world’s most popular, successful, and dangerous metal is finally back after a lengthy 11-year break. Dethklok made their grand return this year with their highly anticipated new album Dethalbum IV and new movie Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar. Prepare for face-melting riffs, spine-crushing drum fills, and blood-curdling screams when the band delivers the most brutal performance at Aragon Ballroom for a co-headlining show with BABYMETAL. It all goes down on Thursday, September 21. Get last-minute tickets here.

Formerly the Lotus Kings, Chicago’s Midwest Santana tribute, Supernatural, comes to the Arcada Theatre in St Charles, Saturday. September 23 Performing a classic catalog of Carlos Santana’s tunes (“Black Magic Woman, “She’s Not There,” “Oye Como Va”) to deeper cuts (“Smooth,” “Maria Maria,” and “The Game of Love”), the band is debuting a stunning version (from Santana’s most recent album) of “Whiter Shade of Pale” for this show. Supernatural is powered by Steve Kikoen’s Grammy-winning band (including Paul Wertico on drums), including their secret weapon, amazing vocalist Cecy Santana.

Ben Gibbard celebrated the 20th anniversary of seminal albums by Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service with full performances of Give Up and Transatlanticism at last week’s Riot Fest. Now, he returns to Chicago for a sold-out encore show at the Salt Shed on Saturday, September 23rd.

Royal Blood is best known for its fuzzed-out, gritty rock sound; as they proved on their latest album, Back to the Water Below, the band isn’t keen on making the same album over and over again. They continue to expand and flesh out their sound to keep it as fresh and exciting as it was on their 2014 self-titled debut. Expect to hear the latest and greatest from Royal Blood during their performance at The Riviera Theatre this Saturday, September 23. You can still get tickets here.
