Stage Buzz: Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live at Arcada Theatre [Updated with Photo Gallery]
Hard rock pioneers Deep Purple are one of the fortunate bands that have had multiple legendary, Hall Of Fame members, and Glenn Hughes (who replaced Roger Glover/and Ian Gillan) performed with the band as co-lead vocalist (with David Coverdale) in their California Jam heyday (1973-1976), is a favorite for many DP fans.
After musical stints with Gary Moore, Pat Thrall (Pat Travers Band), and Black Sabbath, and a battle with drink and drugs that was resolved in the ’90s, Hughes is healthy and hungry and giving the fans what they want on his “Glenn Hughes Performs Classic Deep Purple Live” Thursday.
Hughes told Ultimate Classic Rock “I just lose myself in the music,” he said. “It’s [Deep Purple] part of my heritage, a huge part of my heritage, and to bring these songs – I call it bringing them alive, because some of these songs haven’t been played in a long time.”
They’ll be classic and deep-cuts in the set including “Burn”, “Stormbringer”, “Sail Away” and “Smoke On The Water” according to Blabbermouth.net, and yes after watching online videos – Hughes nails all the Gillan and Coverdale vocals with aplomb.
Appearing, Thursday Sept 13th at Arcada Theatre St Charles
