Cedric Bixler, At The Drive-In

As Y2k was dawning, El Paso, Texas quintet At The Drive-In released their acclaimed “final” album Relationship Of Command, a post-hardcore landmark that found the band on the precipice of wider acclaim after years in the indie rock wilderness. With a sold-out tour of theaters already booked, the band suddenly went on “indefinite hiatus.” Fast forward to 2016, and the band announced that they are hitting the road again with little promotion and tickets vanish at a blink-and-you-missed-it pace.

This past Thursday and Friday, the sold-out tour stopped off at the Riviera Theater for a two-night residency. Although lead singer Cedric Bixler has hinted at new ATDI music, the rabid audience attending both shows seemed more than happy to experience a past that most never had an opportunity to celebrate. Curt Baran joined the melee on night one. He also arrived early enough to capture the beautifully unhinged Terri Gender Bender and her trio Le Butcherettes. Check out his view from the rattling floorboards.
