It all started with a video that aired exactly one time on MTV. Producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters) saw an Anglefish band clip that featured a relatively unknown singer named Shirley Manson.

Vig picked up the phone, invited the Scottish-born singer to his home base of Madison, Wisconsin (of all places) to join his newly formed band, and the result was the self-titled album Garbage from the band of the same name. Their debut went on to sell more than four million copies and turned Manson into one of the most iconic performers in rock history.

The band recently hit the road to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of its maiden release , that landed them at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on October 17th. The band plowed through hits like “Supervixen,” “Queer,” “Only Happy When It Rains” “Girl Don’t Come” as well as every other song from the debut, sounding as if they just stepped out of a time machine some two decades later. Torres helped greet the early birds.
