Rebuilt Sir Miles Davis Academy Bows On South Side
A handful of the late Miles Davis’ family members and musicians will be on hand to open the Sir Miles Davis Academy magnate school on Tuesday, August 26th.
On hand will be Davis’ son Erin (daughter Cheryl is a member of Miles Davis Properties), nephew Vince Wilburn Jr., as well as Miles Davis band alumnus Darryl “Munch” Jones, currently the bassist in The Rolling Stones. Band alum Pete Cosey will also perform.
Re-opening at 6740 S. Paulina in Englewood, the building is part of Mayor Richard M. Daley’s “Modern Schools Across Chicago” program, moving from 6723 S. Wood. Billed to promote a rounded cirriculum for young children through 3rd grade, the Academy is meant to exceed Chicago Public School standards.
