Breaking news: Brauerhouse burnt

| July 29, 2008

The Brauerhouse, 57 N. Hillside Ave. in suburban Hillside, went up in flames late Monday, early Tuesday morning. The Chicago Tribune reports no injuries and police believe no one was inside at the time.

Firemen from several neighboring departments fought the blaze, believed to have started around 2:30 a.m. and lasting for at least four hours. Brauerhouse opened near the Eisenhower (I-290) expressway in 1999, and recently began aggressively promoting live music, particularly punk rock. It also spawned Buzzbomb, a music venue in Chicago’s Bedford Park, with which it often shares bookings.

Brauerhouse is the second suburban venue to suffer such a fate; Dreams in Lockport was destroyed early morning on April 2nd. A man living in an adjoining hotel died in the fire.

  2. Amy Sue says:

If anyone is at a loss for a place to hang out and mourn our local com padres, Art’s tavern is under new management, and right down the street! Its at 4510 Butterfield, google shows it as Healy’s public house, and some young hot rockabilly guy manages it now. Its no longer an old man bar! they’re in talks with the village to have permits for car shows and bands, they serve homemade pizza, have internet juke, satellite tvs, free wireless, and darts.. Dude, its a great place to hang out, and its so close to where brauer once triumphantly stood..

  3. Tony says:

Please don’t use reports of the Brauerhouse burning down to promote your bar in Hillside….some of us are actually upset that the Brauerhouse is gone. Thanks.

  4. Amy Sue says:
