The Vincent Black Shadow
Fear’s In The Water
(Bodog)
The infiltration of indie rock has created a shortage of sassy, street-smart pop punks.
Appearing: April 6th at Metro in Chicago.
Armed with the red hot vocals of Cassandra Ford while essentially a pop-punk band, The Vincent Black Shadow combines elements of goth, metal, and even a little jazz on their full-length debut, Fear’s In The Water. It’s when they incorporate such genres as swing and cabaret, though, that this album really picks up: the horn-fueled “This Road Is Going Nowhere” or the poppy closer, “Letters To No One.” There are a few missteps along the way, however, such as the saccharine “Don’t Go Soft” and the lyrically impaired “Broken,” but overall, for those longing for the days of No Doubt and Save Ferris, salvation has arrived in the form of The Vincent Black Shadow.
