Morcheeba’s Skye Goes Solo
Skye
Mind How You Go
(Cordless)
Morcheeba vocalist Skye disappoints at first by not detouring from her usual gig, but eventually carves her own roads.
The worst thing a solo debut can do is stay the course, mystifying listeners as to why an album had to be a separate project. With “Love Show,” Skye nearly falls into that trap and tempts fate again and again on Mind How You Go — an appropriate title. But “Stop Complaining,” while not completely off her treads, deviates enough to bespeak ideas yet uncovered by Morcheeba. Such is the game of Mind, she alternates between old and new to maintain interest without escaping her devoted. “Solitary” and “Calling” could just as well have been Morcheeba tracks, however the funneled “What’s Wrong With Me” and chopped “Tell Me About Your Day” earn her solo stripes.
