Enemies Like This
(Astralwerks)
Every rock journalist in the Western hemisphere is wondering what the hell happened to Radio 4.
Having released a sophomore album, Gotham, that was positively Clash-like, each successive release has been a repudiation of originality and gone straight for the trends. Enemies Like This, while having its moments, is more new wavey disco punk that’s certainly on the way out by now. Oddly, “Ascension Street” hearkens to the urban reggae that made *Gotham such a corker, but it has more London panache than revolutionary fervor. Someone – the label, the band members – needs to fish or cut bait.
