Months before the release of their debut album (2024’s Prelude To Ecstasy), The Last Dinner Party had already captured plenty of attention from music lovers. Advance singles like “Nothing Matters” and “Sinners” have garnered copious amounts of air play here and overseas and created no shortage of anticipation for the entirety of the full album.
The London quartet (fleshed out into a five piece with touring drummer Rebekah Rayner) even hit the road in the States with meager exposure, then proceeded to sell out all of their dates.
Friday found them landing in Milwaukee for a sold out show at the absolutely charming Turner Hall Ballroom. As if the evening wasn’t already filled with high expectations, it also coincided with (finally) the U.S. release date of their first record.
From the very first note, the intimate space was transformed into a sing-along that felt like a warm embrace. It was actually quite stunning to see a band emerge as fully formed as they were. Lead singer Abigail Morris was resplendent in a blood red, gauzy dress that perfectly complemented the band’s baroque-tinged pop songs. It felt like the beginning of something bigger and otherworldly. With growing word of mouth and high profile gigs on the horizon (a Lollapalooza date in Chicago among them), The Last Dinner might soon find themselves seated at the big table.
