Although she never technically went away, it really feels like Shania Twain is βback.β The Canadian import largely owned the pop-leaning tendencies of country music during her heyday in the β90s and early aughts. Her sophomore release, 1995βs The Woman In Me, sold 20 million copies worldwide, a stunning achievement.
Fast forward to the present day. While her sixth studio album (2023βs Queen Of Me) isnβt quite the radio-friendly unit shifter of days of yore, her audience is definitely still here. All necessary proof was provided on a textbook-perfect summer evening at Tinley Parkβs Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre, where Twain was greeted by a sold-out sea of attendees hell-bent on owning the night. Diagnosed with Lyme disease a few years back, Twain might not quite have the vocal prowess she once possessed in the β90s, but damn if her song catalog isnβt the stuff of dreams for any aspiring songwriter Illuminated in front of massive LED screens, Twain worked every inch of the stage, commanding all of the requisite posses, leg kicks, fist pumps, and singalongs. Burners like βRock This Country!β and βWhose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?β were perfect examples of how she broke free from the lasso of Nashville and into the mainstream. βYouβre Still The Oneβ and βFrom This Moment Onβ are the polar opposite, undiluted wedding song fodder with hooks simply too sumptuous to resist.
The night featured Twainβs exceedingly tight band wrapped inside an irresistible evening of βawe shucksβ informality.
