If industrial music godfathers Einstürzende Neubauten, Throbbing Gristle, and Cabaret Voltaire used metal and iron soundscapes for their groundbreaking music, Wardruna takes it a step further using going back to Nordic folk music and the tools of the earth (animal skins, goat horns, tree limbs, and other organic elements) for their percussive and atmospheric music. Led by co-founder Einar Selvik, known for composing the score of the hit TV show Vikings, the Norwegians’ soothing and menacing folk metal combines natural atmospherics and Nordic history to satisfy its fans. Buoyed by their acclaimed 2021 album Kvitravn, the pandemic delayed their Chicago performances twice, but they finally arrive at the Auditorium Theatre on Friday, October 21.
