The “Unlimited Love” tour touched down inside of Chicago’s Soldier Field Friday. It featured headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers, who are currently on the road for the first time in half a decade. It also marks the return of savant guitarist John Frusciante, who last toured with the band 15 years ago. Beneath the backdrop of yet another ideal Midwest evening for music outdoors, the Left Coast quartet sounded completely rejuvenated with Fusciante back in the fold.
The set list was a smattering of new songs and rock radio staples, but what was immediately apparent was the chemistry between the four individuals, something that had been lacking during previous tours. It has arguably also birthed a very fertile period for all concerned, seeing as how the band is scheduled to release its second record this YEAR (“Return Of The Dream Canteen”) later this fall.
