If the return of the Pitchfork Music Festival has proven anything, it’s that Pitchfork, the music website, has consistently been excellent at curating and recognizing emerging talent. Bands that have previously played more miniature stages early in the day continue to return as headliners who deliver career-making performances. Day One this year featured the always dependable The National as the day’s featured act. Yes, the continuous rain scared off some of the less hardy souls, but those who made it were treated to stellar sets from Arooj Aftab, Ethel Cain, Spirit of the Beehive, Wiki, SPELLING, Indigo De Souza, Tierra Whack, Parquet Courts, Dawn Richard, Spiritualized and Amber Mark.
