Recap and photos by Curt Baran

Expect to see Home Video on a great many year-end “Best-Of” lists. The third album from Richmond, Virginia’s Lucy Dacus, is so intimately confessional that, at times, it feels as if the listener is eavesdropping on a conversation or stealing a peek at an open diary.

When Dacus took the stage at The Vic Theatre on a warm, rainy Monday evening, she immediately addressed a very sold-out venue. “We are without our guitarist [Jacob Blizard] tonight, so we’re going to do some different things.” The contributions of the missing musician (who was sidelined by a breakthrough case of  COVID-19) changed some songs’ palettes.

But oddly enough, it stripped the newer songs of some of their studio heft, resulting in crispy melodies and a magnified focus on the previous intimations in the compositions.
