Greta Van Fleet

During a current stretch in the music industry when hip-hop and pop music has reigned supreme, the meteoric rise of Greta Van Fleet has proven to be an anomaly unto itself.

Pulling heavily from the 1970’s rock canon aesthetic, the accusations of derivativeness have been plentiful. But then, so have the ticket sales. The Michigan quartet started in the clubs, quickly graduated into theaters and now find themselves hitting the road for a summer tour of the Shed’s.

Having a successive streak of #1 albums and EPs probably doesn’t hurt either, as well as a accruing a Grammy in the Hard Rock category. Critical acclaim certainly has not accompanied their success, but one might paraphrase the sage that was Jeff Bebe from Almost Famous. In reference to the value of the positively written word, he reminded us that critics “…trashed ‘Layla,’ broke up Cream and ripped every album Led Zeppelin made.“

Critics be damned. The fans have spoken.
