British metal pioneers Judas Priest have toured hard in support of their 2018 Firepower album, and their upcoming intimate performance Saturday at the Rosemont Theatre shows they’ve got a seemingly endless supply of fans to mine in the Chicago area.
In last year’s cover story in IE, vocalist Rob Halford told Kelley Simms they tour so much because the have a special bond with their fans, especially those in the Windy City. “We think about our fans so much. We have a #Priest family, that’s what we feel. So many of our friends have been with us since day one, especially in your part of the world around Chicago, [Illinois]. That part of the nation has been solid for Priest for as long as I can remember. There is just something about the personality of Chicago and the hardcore attachment to heavy metal music that we see and feel each time we go back. I think if we were not getting that buzz or not getting that excitement or that same anticipation or expectation, like our fans get, then there’s something sorely wrong.”
According to Blabbermouth.net, Priest will be diving deep in the catalog to keep the die-hards happy. Several deep JP album cuts will be “aired for the very first time, including three songs from PRIEST‘s latest album, 2018’s Firepower: “Necromancer”, “Spectre” and “Traitors Gate”. Also making its live debut was “(Take These) Chains”, from 1982’s Screaming For Vengeance. “All Guns Blazing”, from 1990’s “Painkiller”, was performed live for the first time in nearly 18 years. Elsewhere, “Out In The Cold”, from 1986’s Turbo, was dusted off after 33 years.”
