Photo Gallery: Metric/Zoe at Aragon Ballroom

A huge portion of North America was represented this past Friday night in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, and the good ole’ U.S. of A. was not on the bill. The historic Aragon Ballroom played host to the co-headlining tour “Metric & Zoe,” which is comprised of the Canadian indie-rock band and the psychedelic rock band from Mexico, respectively.

The evening proved to be a unique opportunity to bring together two bands with their own sizable fan bases that might not have been previously on each others radar. Both acts split the difference of the evening, playing sets that were some ninety minutes each. And although there was some audience bleed after Zoe’s set (their performance proceeded Metric’s), most in attendance seemed curious enough to spend their evening checking out performances from band’s that wouldn’t normally receive their attention. Openers July Talk kept the early arrivals engaged, but perhaps tipped the cultural advantage to our friends from The Great White North: They also hail from Toronto, Ontario, Metric’s home town. “Oh Canada,” indeed.
