Stage Buzz/Recap/Gallery (Updated): Wolf Alice at Schubas

| July 4, 2017

Ellie Rowsell, Wolf Alice

North London’s Wolf Alice completely eviscerated Chicago’s Schubas Tavern Wednesday. The intimate confines at Belmont and Southport proved to be the perfect setting for the quartet to preview songs from their forthcoming release (due this fall). They also tore through fan favorites that included “Moaning Lisa Smile,” “Bros,” “Giant Peach” and “Lisbon.” Curt Baran managed to capture the proceedings without becoming collateral damage.

On their stellar debut, My Love Is Cool, London quartet Wolf Alice gave indie guitar rock a badly needed slap across the face. Six strings roared as a facelift tight rhythm section thundered underneath it on songs like “Moaning Lisa Smile” and “Lisbon.”

The band recently released the single “Yuk Foo” and is teasing that another (“Don’t Delete The Kisses”) is ready to drop at a moments notice. They hit the road this summer, playing smaller venues with a seemingly wide open agenda.

Their reputation as an incendiary live act obviously proceeds them, as most dates are already sold out. Expect them to workshop material from their sophomore long player, due this fall. As sneak peeks go, this one is not to be missed.
Appearing at Schubas July 5th (Sold Out).
