There was a time during the 1990’s when it felt like you could not turn on terrestrial radio without running into a song by either Counting Crows or Matchbox 20. Although their ubiquity has certainly ebbed, that hasn’t stopped Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas from hitting the road with the Crows for a co-headlining tour that brought them to a packed First Merit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island on an ideal summer evening along Chicago’s lakefront. Curt Baran hopped into the way back machine for a visit. Opener K Phillips kept things current with a melodic assist. Here’s what it looked like.
