Photo Gallery: U2 @ United Center
The boys are back in town! Chicago has always shared a rich history with U2. The Irish quartet was embraced early on in their infancy by the City of Big Shoulders. On the first date (June 24) of a five night residency, they even gave a shoutout to Chicago radio institution WXRT, the station that was first to spin their earliest imports (Mick Jagger, Chris Rock and former U2 manager Paul McGuiness, all of whom were in attendance, received acknowledgement as well). Unlike their last road trip (the 360 degree Tour), U2 left behind their spaceship , this time opting for a dumbbell shaped stage that ran the length of United Center. Dubbed the Innocence + Experience Tour, the evening found the band playing under a single, illuminated light bulb (albeit, one large enough to light half of the arena) while performing some of their earliest material (“Electric Co.” “I Will Follow”) and following the muse up to and including their most recent record “Songs Of Innocence.” IE photographer Curt Baran basked in the glow of an oversized GE 60 watt. Check out his images to see how the evening was lit.
