Local Studio Happenings
Pete Berwick started his new, 18-song album at SKYE BLUE STUDIOS in Villa Park. Berwick is recording his third album with his most recent band, The Renegades (guitarist Rick Devries, bassist Nick Verbik, and drummer Rob Surey), and co-producer Jason Botka. It should be out in early ’09.
At GRAVITY STUDIOS in Chicago, Buddy Guy recorded with studio owner Doug McBride for an upcoming Jive Records release. “We felt really honored that the first artist to record on our new Neve 5088 was the legendary Buddy Guy,” McBride said . . . Live recorded its new single, “Forever,” with engineer CJ Eiriksson.
At LINDER AVENUE RECORDING in Roselle, singer-songwriter Franco Campanella recorded vocals and mixed tracks for his debut release. Antonio Soriano produced, and Dom Palmisano engineered.
At PRAGMA in Chicago, Van Ghost finished mixing its debut LP, Melodies For Lovers, with Sean O’Keefe. The album was produced by Dan Wean and Michael Berg; Wean engineered . . . Triumph & Parade worked with Mike Hari on new material . . . O’Keefe did some mixing for Shred Eagle.
At SONGWERKS STUDIO in Addison, the doors have reopened for other bands and artists to record after completing the AVM album, A Matter Of Time . . . Bob Morris from The Hush Sound recorded . . . The Davenport Project did pre-production for its demo. Recording will start in the live room this month.
At SOUNDSCAPE STUDIOS in Chicago, owner Michael Kolar assisted on a remix of “Swagger Like Us” called “Swagger Like Chi” in conjunction with Rubyhornet.com and DJ Roosevelt Treasure Chest. The song featured Naledge of Kidz In Da Hall, MarVo, Really Doe, Bump J, Mikkey Halsted, and G.L.C. There is a video of the recording session on Rubyhornet.com as well as a free MP3 download . . . Kolar also mixed G.L.C.’s debut album, Love, Life, & Loyalty, which features Chicago producers including Kanye West; Bun B, Bump J, and Naledge make guest appearances . . . Really Doe worked with Kolar on his new album and single, “Plastic,” featuring West . . . The Bollweevils mixed a concert DVD with Kolar from its Riotfest shows; Kolar recorded those live in 5.1 audio and high-definition Blu-Ray. The band is gearing up to record a new album with Kolar as well . . . Kolar and Kyle Resto recorded the full day of Riotfest at Congress Theatre for Riotfest Records. This included The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and All. Jeff Poremba and Think Tank Productions conducted a 10-camera HD shoot and Soundscape handled the 5.1 HD audio.
At STUDIO VMR in Brookfield, Walter Cunningham (Dartmouth College music director) finished a collection of songs with programmer/engineer Nate Johnson. Don Griffin also engineered and mastered the project.
Windy City Rev Ups recorded eight songs from the Live In Chicago CD at Steve’s Sports Bar in Antioch and two songs at The Lake House in Plainfield. These sessions were recorded remotely and mastered by CAVE AUDIO PRODUCTIONS.
