The connection between comedy and hip-hop has grown beyond Def Comedy Jam in recent years. Like the best observational MCs, Comedy Central’s own Hannibal Buress can create thought-provoking conversations out of everyday occurrences. The difference with the Chicagoan is he can consistently make you laugh.

His stand up deals with random topics like the irrelevance of firefighters who show up to fires in SUVs or how 24-hour pawnshops exist solely for crackheads to make a quick buck. With his deadpan delivery, Buress doesn’t mask his sets using wild body movement – he just lets his hilarious observations carry his comedy.

As part of a new monthly night at Morseland organized by local indie imprint Gravel Records, Buress will share the stage with an interesting assembly of hip-hop talent. The night will also feature hip-hop/funk band ProbC and the DH, beatbox/harmonica master Yuri Lane, Atlanta MC Manchild of the group Mars Ill, and Longshot serving as the host.
