The lineup of the first Rock N Rhymes music fest is arguably a little random, but this inaugural show looks to bring a whole lot of lively sets to Uptown’s Kinetic Playground.

While the A Tribe Called Quest-affiliated DJ Rasta Root of Atlanta headlines, a majority of the acts on the bill are up-and-coming hometown talent (many managed by HYPE Promotions). This unusual balance of rock and hip-hop groups includes Brookfield’s bar-friendly reggae-influenced rockers Cold Water Mystic and Chicago’s ultra-animated producer/MC duo Yea Big & Kid Static. With its relatively varied roster, Rock N Rhymes is a rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of who’s bubbling under in Chicagoland right now.
