Walter Meego member Justin Sconza goes it alone on seven-track EP.
Far from the 12-inch world of WM, Sconza clearly enjoys the Lennon half of Lennon/McCartney as much as life itself. Even coming close to the Walrus’ slightly snarled tone and lightly processed vocals, Paint By Numbers might be an ironic title but at the very least it’s a knowing wink. Opener “You May Begin Now” tries to pull back the covers on reality, while “A Pretty Picture” takes what Blur found in The Kinks and removes the guitar. Production-wise, *Paint By Numbers’ lo-fi demeanor hides some of Sconza’s eccentricity — already well-hidden by the man himself — though it does add another dimension to freewheeling Walter Meego.
