Guitar Center Drum Contest

| September 13, 2006

Hit The Skins

Rush drummer Neil Peart names his solos, which we find disturbingly pretentious. So promise us if you win Guitar Center’s Drum Off 2006 you won’t get a big head about it.

Guitar Center claims the contest is the “world’s largest and most respected drum competition,” and with a $38,000 grand prize package up for grabs we aren’t arguing. If you think you bash the skins better than anyone, you can sign up at any Guitar Center nationwide or online at www.guitarcenter.com. Do it quickly, though, because in-store competitions begin Tuesday, September 19th. There, drummers will play a three-minute solo and be judged on originality, technique, style, stage presence (flaming sticks are a can’t-miss), and overall performance. Store finals take place October 10th; district finals November 8th; regional finals December 6th, and the grand finale in January. Included in the grand prize are a 2006 Scion tC, a $2,400 Guitar Center shopping spree, Roland V Pro electronic drum, custom designed cases, a PC laptop with a $250 Napster download card, and a one-year drum and cymbal endorsement deal.
