Alias And Tarsier
Plane That Draws A White Line
(Anticon)
While this EP is being marketed as a collection of “new songs” from bi-coastal duo Alias And Tarsier, in reality, it’s more like table scraps from their recently released downtempo debut, Brookland/Oaklyn.
One of the best inclusions (the title track) is actually taken directly from the aforementioned album. To be fair, though, there is enough intriguing material featured to pique this duo’s fans — particularly the five remixes. Genre-bending instrumentalist Boom-Bip arguably steals the show with his remix of the song giving this EP its name. This unpredictable reworking kicks off with a pulsing techno rhythm, which then transforms into a glitchy, undulating beat as Tarsier’s serene vocals kick in, and then only re-intensifies. There may not be much that’s “new” about Plane That Draws A White Line, but it will likely keep the momentum of Alias And Tarsier going.
