Live! Tonight! Rock critic!

Since we’re usually hiding in VIP sections or way in back so you can’t see us scribbling in our notebooks, rock critics are an elusive bunch. But now’s your chance to see one onstage rocking the rock life. IE‘s Joseph Simek and his band, The Administration, have ventured out of their Pennsylvanian digs for their first Chicago show. The Administration — Simek and Brad Baker — are supporting Inaugural, which was reportedly recorded with a single, loaner microphone. While that certainly contributes to Inaugural‘s lo-fi stance, layering blocky piano chords and crunchy electric guitar (“My Heart Goes Out”) certainly doesn’t come from meek aspirations. It’s a mix of Adore-era Smashing Pumpkins, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Thor. Just kidding. Judge for yourself.

Disappear House, Lost Armada, and Last Regrets also play.
