Reckless Kelly Was Here

Reckless Kelly Was Here gives the chilling impression it’s supposed to be Frampton Comes Alive. Hopefully we’ve learned that lesson.

Deserving marks for its undeniable energy and forsaking of cheeseball stage banter, Reckless Kelly Was Here would be a great live album if . . . Reckless Kelly was a great band (and there weren’t filler studio tracks). Saddled by lackluster, cliché-ridden material, Reckless Kelly play the ironic redneck bit to the point of no return. The musicianship is flawless, the smirks practically fucking audible, but frequent nods to drugs and tired riffs make the self-proclaimed “Mötley Crüe of roots rock” little more than weekend warriors with a tape of themselves on a really good night. Fans only.
