I Sing The Body Holographic
(Eyeball)
Former Sleep Station members morph into a more synth-oriented, anthemo concoction.
Under the influence of My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way, who suggested Sleep Station become a Brit pop outfit, I Sing The Body Holographic is about everything from prostitutes rebuffing suitors to perhaps scorned suitors murdering prostitutes — singer Dave Debiak might soon have the NYPD on his doorstep. The songs are considerably less stark, taking Sleep Station’s disposition toward power pop to U2 heights, backed ever more assuredly by layers of keyboards and samples. “You Will Disappear” bounds from bubbling electronics to ass-popping tambourine, while the swirling ballad of “Nadine” tempts the ’50s back into view. If *Body Holographic fails it’s in the hooks, which seem to be secondary to the pained lyrics and dense arrangements. In that they are inferior to the old branch.
