Devon Allman, scion of Gregg, is most definitely his father’s son.

The four-song sampler anticipating the August 29th release of Honeytribe’s Torch (Livewire) makes no secret of Allman’s Southern-rock fetish, while moving away from the instrumental virtuosity that was his father’s band’s calling card. “Something I Know” is The Black Crowes denying their Stones debt, full of breakdowns where Allman coos and purrs over the glow of a Hammond organ. The rock cliché of “aeroplane” flies into “When I Call Home,” “Mahalo” sounds like a watered-down Allman jam, though the title track spews some youthful fire.

Honeytribe also play the Taste Of Lincoln street festival on July 30th.
