The Lovely Feathers
Hind Hind Legs
(Equator)

Blah blah blah . . . Quintet The Lovely Feathers . . . blah blah blah . . . quirky indie rock . . . Montreal . . . blah blah blah . . . buddies with Metric and the Broken Social Scene enclave.

It’s a good thing the Montreal scene doesn’t have a catch name yet (a la grunge, garage), because The Lovely Feathers wouldn’t quite fit it. Raging Modest Mouse gang vocals, toy keyboards, embellished strings, faux Brit accents . . . and that’s just “In The Valley.” And while Pavement seem to be the default band in describing this kind of mess (“Mildly Decorated” is pure Malkmus in texture and vocal melody), where those comparisons end and Hind Hind begins to lose its legs is over and over again repetition. What initially seems like eclecticism can be distilled into two camps: slow, silly parts and faster, sillier parts. Jokey rock . . . blah blah blah . . . shelf life . . .
