Original Losing Losers

Former Chicagoan and bandmates admit to SST love, and aren’t kidding either.

While you could find similarities with ’90s indie standbys like Hum and Arcwelder, Losers Beat Winners’ love nothing more than some Hüsker Dü on their debut full-length. Tracks like “Bloom” pocket a number of Bob Mould’s shiny barre chords, not to mention his and Grant Hart’s distant, raging lovelives. Even stranger in its similarity is the recording itself, flat and bass-less just like those old records. Drummer Mark Pavlack, the Chicagoan, sounds compressed and tinny, each snare pop is a shot fired to get out of the van and into those Mould-y oldies.
