The Eternals
High Anxiety EP
(Aesthetics)

Having gone their first two albums with an asterick overemphasizing their Trenchmouth lineage, Chicago’s Eternals let outsiders remix them and break the separations game wide open.

Sometimes great remix discs — and what a tiny minority they’re in — tell you more about a song than the original mixing job could muster. That in mind, The Eternals take cracks of their own on High Anxiety, also turning in two new cuts (including the outstanding “Billions Of People”) steeped in dancehall kindness. Birthmark turn “Messing Up My Place” into an organ menace, while Prefuse 73 does even more splicing than The Eternals themselves chance on “Black Nuclear Power Bonus Beats.” What would Trenchmouth have done? Just kidding.
