Come To España!
Spain Colored Orange
Hopelessly Incapable Of Standing In The Way EP
(Lucid)
Well now’s the time to be a Cuban jazz fan and in an indie rock band.
Spain Colored Orange preordained a good deal of the themes on the Hopelessly EP with the band name, silhouettes of bulls, and constant deployment of Latin American trumpet passages, perhaps shortchanging themselves in the process. After all, it sets them apart on “Maybe It’s True” but it hardly opens doors. Otherwise they sound more or less like The Minus Five searching for an international medium and unenthusiastically exploitative. So when they get to “Persistent Intermission,” excuse Spain Colored Orange if the attack is aggressive and the layers of assualt from which they attack are dense. However, all the inference in the world can’t keep this from being just plain indie rock, which it is.
