Against The Wind
Kid Rock
‘Live’ Trucker
(Atlantic)
Kid Rock will always be a waste of my time, but this is the album he was meant to make.
Done up in Bob Seger-style font, Kid Rock’s first foray into concert documentation is an unqualified success, the kind of record that makes “I don’t buy live albums” people buy live albums. Even all the man-child shamelessness of his stage show found its way into the soundboard recording, pumping ‘Live’ Trucker full of cock-wrangling machismo. While it’s still hard to tell if he’s in on the joke (he plays touch-up by not using a single show, but a handful), “God Only Knows Why,” “Bawitdaba,” “Cowboy,” and “American Bad Ass” finally have a home, and the rest of us can go on knowing what an “outstanding” performer he is, without ever having to set foot in one of his fucking shows.
