You The Man, Portugal
Portugal. The Man
Waiter: You Vultures!
(Fearless)
Alaskan indie rock isn’t as exotic as it sounds.
Portugal. The Man, much like the funny punctuation in their band name and album title, force their eccentricity throughout Waiter: You Vultures! Abstract lyrics, falsetto vocal leads, and Chicago’s hyper techno meet with lounge breaks for an interesting if unfulfilling and showy record as remote in meaning as geography. Things get straight occasionally (“Kill Me. The King”), but time for being cute is done. Say something.
