Imagine live performances on one stage of The Rolling Stones’ “Let’s Spend The Night Together,” Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl,” Smashing Pumpkins’ “Today,” and Dave Matthews Band’s “Crash” — not necessarily performed in that order, definitely not by those artists and in all honesty possibly not even those songs. O.K. let’s try this again. Want to help adorable, sweet, sick little girls? Gotcha now!

On February 18th, three local cover bands will be performing at the Blarney Stone in Oak Forest to help raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The benefit is in honor of three Southwest suburban kids, all of whom have suffered (or are currently suffering) from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Acoustically Challenged, The Tracks, and Dizzy Stick will play between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. In addition to alternative pop rock song covers, the event promises limited food, raffles, and prizes. Tickets are $10 at the door. For more information visit, www.dizzystickband.com.

FitzGerald’s in Berwyn has also lined up another benefit for area folk hero Gary Schepers. Poi Dog Pondering, Nicholas Tremulis, and no stranger to benefits Alejandro Escovedo will send the $25 ticket price straight to help the ailing stagehand, hit hard recently by diabetes. Click here to read about recent fundraisers for Schepers; musicians rallied to Escovedo’s side in 2003 and ’04 when he was diagnosed with hepatitis.

This article definitely pulled me in by naming the major bands…nice surprise to find none of them will be there! However, I like the writer’s style and what the concert represents. This Angie Maldonado keeps writing like this and I’ll attend all the shows. Besides, Dizzy Stick rocks!!
