Update: Cowboy Ray dies

| January 11, 2006

Cowboy Ray killed from injuries sustained in hit-and-run

“Mancow’s Morning Madhouse” regular Raymond “Cowboy Ray” Hofstatter, who was critically injured late November when a motorist hit him as he crossed Archer Avenue with friends, died early January 11th.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Hofstatter frequented Bohica Bar & Grill (5518 S. Archer, Chicago) and often stayed after closing to entertain staff while they cleaned up. At about 3:45 a.m. on November 19th, a black Honda Civic with a number of females inside sent him 20 feet through the air shortly after leaving Bohica and did not stop to aid him. Details about his specific condition (i.e., broken bones, damaged organs) were unavailable, though his status was listed as critical at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

On Monday, November 21st, Eric “Mancow” Muller offered a $5,000 reward for credible information leading to the arrest of suspects. No suspects have been arrested or made known publicly

Just want to say my prayers are with Ray’s family and the Mancow crew during this sad time. Although we will miss Ray, I’m sure he is in a better place He will be remembered as one of Chicago’s funny men who made us laugh so hard in the mornings. If Mancow is the Bob Bell (Bozo) of radio, Ray was the Roy Brown (Cookie the clown) of radio. Happy Trials to you cowboy until we meet again.

  2. I hope the people responsible are found and prosecuted to the full extent. They were probally too intoxicated and scared to stop. Still that is no excuse. I send my condolances to the family of Ray and to the Mancow Crew. God will have their final judgement in his court!!! God Bless and let free speech stand firm.

  3. Susan Goldman says:

  4. Jason G says:

  5. "crazy mary" says:

i’m sorry ray died. but lately, mancow has been holding a grudge against me, by not letting talk or appear on the show anymore. i tried to comment on the situation, but he’s had me on hold for about 2 hrs that’s after he cut me off.i called back and then i’m on hold again! i thought “what’s going on here”? he’s been doing this to me ever since ray died. if “jim jesus” (producer of the show)manned the phonelines for “larry king’s cable tv show, he would not let oprah winfry’s call to the show go through. he’d cut her off! never to talk to talk to larry’s guest “james fry” to defend the author. i tried to give “cow” my condolences, but he won’t let me have my say! i hope this is the absolute last time he has me silenced! this is the last straw! and i hope his indiana fans never listen or call his show again, if i’m not back on!

  6. Cannon says:

I just would like to add, I remember the 1st day he was on, Mancow said he sounded like whenni the poo.

Life is short we must all respect it. Rock On Vampire Ray ” And Dat” whuch he always would say

  7. Troy says:

I too remember the first day Cowboy Ray was on Mancow’s show. Known back then as “The Newport Daddy”, me and my friends would laugh so hard at Ray and Mancow going back and forth. What a sad heart breaking thing to happen to such a great and pure honest soul. I knew about this horrible accident, I am now just finding out about Ray passing away. I am shocked, stunned and sad. Justice must be met, lets find these people who took our friend from us.
