Bryan Harvey 1957-2006
In shocking and saddening news, former House Of Freaks guitarist Bryan Harvey was found murdered Sunday (January 2nd) along with his wife Kathryn and their two daughters at their Richmond, Virginia home.
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, House Of Freaks bandmate Johnny Hott arrived (along with his daughter) at the Harvey home during the afternoon of New Year’s Day for a planned cookout and found the house on fire. Hott called the fire department, and when firefighters arrived they found the bodies of Bryan (49), Kathryn (39), Stella (9), and Ruby (4) in the basement bound with tape and their throats slit.
Authorities told the Times-Dispatch it is too early in the investigation to identify motives or suspects, but one detective told the paper the crime scene was the worst he has ever seen.
From 1987 to 1991 House Of Freaks released an EP and two albums via Rhino, and another with Giant. The band’s 1989 release, Tantilla, reached number 154 on the Billboard charts; HOF officially disbanded in 1995. Harvey most recently spent his time as the guitarist for NrG Krysys.
Rapper Obie Trice‘s New Year’s Eve was spent in the hospital. The Eminem protégé and Shady Records roster member was shot while driving on the freeway in his native Detroit, the Associated Press reports. Trice was traveling on the Lodge Freeway at about 1:10 a.m. Saturday (December 31st) when someone from another car shot his vehicle. The rapper exited the freeway, and his girlfriend, who was also in the car but unharmed, flagged down police. Trice was taken to the hospital and listed in good condition.
A body that washed ashore at the Oak Street Beach in Chicago on December 28th was identified as Kirk Harber. The 49-year-old Harber was a local musician who had recently played with Big Daddy Shark & The Fins as well as Chase Daniels & Western Star. According to Tony Amaro, a friend of Harber’s who contacted IE, Harber was living with his sister in Chicago, had recently converted to Catholicism, and was a “phenomenal player and singer.” Officials have not determined whether his death was accidental, the Chicago Tribune reports.

I would have appreciated being contacted prior to your publishing RIP on my brother, Kirk. Although his friend, I am sure, had only good intentions, we, Kirk’s family, would have prefered not to have anything published.
Thank you.
