Usually, we don’t get too excited about tribute bands, hence the lack of “Stage Buzz”space dedicated to them. It isn’t because we look down at them, underestimate their talent, or find them cheesy. We have nothing but admiration for the dedication and skill it requires to master the entire catalog of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, or The Rolling Stones. But the fact remains you can see tribute bands playing across the Chicagoland area any weekend of the year, while touring bands supporting original music hit town less frequently and are therefore more hype worthy.
We couldn’t pass this one up, though.
Not only are three of the Chicago area’s finest heavy metal tribute acts — Damaged Justice (Metallica), Powerslave (Iron Maiden), and Blizzard Of Ozz (Ozzy Osbourne) teaming up for the same bill at J.J. Kelley’s, each band will be playing their heroes’ classic record in its entirety. Damaged Justice will whip out Ride The Lightning, Powerslave Number Of The Beast, and Blizzard Of Ozz (which feature guitarist supreme Kevin M. Buck) perform the album they’re named after. Not sure why Damaged Justice chose Lightning instead of Master Of The Puppets, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and is widely considered the Metallica album; maybe they’re saving that one for a possible triple bill with Highspeedirt (Megadeth) and Angry Chair (Alice In Chains).

Wow…Very cool write up, Trevor. To answer your question about the Puppets album; We have done that album 3 times to celebrate the 20th anniversary. It was supposed to have been in advertisements, but you know how that goes. This will be the 3rd complete album we have performed. We have done the …And Justice for All album, Puppets and now Ride. Tribute bands actually play the music and there is alot of energy.It’s a lot of fun and its five bucks. Its better than nothing. So don’t take it so seriously.Kevin M Buck will give any guitarist a run for his money.There is no over-priced tickets to watch fake singers or celebrities lip-synch like any Britney Spears show or Whitney Houston gig.They don’t write their own music or play any instrument. It’s a total ripoff because with all the dance moves they would be winded trying to sing.Its false advertisement and overpriced.If you don’t like tribute bands simply don’t listen.
Now that I think of it.
You cats never write a positive review about metal.
Your reviews always refer to the past and never focus on the product on hand.
There are too many preconceived notions and cutdowns and I never understood why.
Review the CD or Lp for what it is and not about ” the 80’s genre”
Music is supposed to be fun and bring enjoyment.Not petty complaints or how you feel it should be.
